About Propeller Balancers
Propeller balancers are typically static vertical, non-rotating machines, designed this way to avoid the effects of windage during measurement. Depending on size and application, they can be installed in protected environments to ensure ambient airflow does not interfere with accuracy.
Correction is usually achieved by adding weights within the hub, or by lightly sanding or grinding the blades; in some cases rivets or bonded weights can be applied. Most systems are operated manually due to the wide variety of propeller designs and production volumes, although semi-automatic options can be integrated for aerospace or UAV applications.
To hold the propeller securely, specialist adapters are used, with the option of air-feed fixtures that tilt blades to check balance across different configurations. For larger marine or wind turbine propellers, heavy-duty mandrels and bespoke fixturing are supplied to ensure repeatable, reliable results.d
For correction, tires are usually balanced by applying rubber weights or stickers to the inner wall, while wheels and braking systems are corrected using pre-formed weights that ensure precise and durable results.
The tooling system is designed for simplicity and flexibility. Tires are mounted on a mandrel or arbor, with interchangeable forming discs applied before loading. Wheels and braking systems use a similar mandrel or arbor, fitted with a backstop to provide secure and accurate positioning during balancing.
