For OEM production, MRO and overhaul

Aerospace Balancing and Test Stands

Balancing machines and test stands for aircraft wheels, turbine rotors, propellers and propulsion auxiliaries, for OEM production and for MRO and overhaul facilities. Wheels, tires and brakes go on vertical non-rotating machines and rotors on horizontal or vertical machines, and every machine logs data and prints a balance certificate for each part, backed by up to a 3-year warranty.

Parts we balance

Aircraft Wheels, Turbine Rotors and Propellers

Wheels, rotors and blades.

Each aerospace component family has its own machine layout, correction method and tooling.

Wheels, tires and brakes

Aircraft wheel balancing

Typically balanced on vertical non-rotating machines, which are easy to load and measure very quickly. A suspension lock for heavier assemblies protects the machine and shortens settling time.

  • Tires: balance patches bonded to the inner liner
  • Brakes: special weights added to the face
  • Simple manual tooling: a central locating adaptor with interchangeable details per part type
  • For wheel and brake shops, MRO and overhaul, and OEM production

Turbine and jet engine rotors

Turbine balancing

Designed for ultra-high accuracy because of the critical nature of the components. Turbine wheels typically go on vertical machines; full rotors and rotor assemblies on horizontal machines, which may include precision bearing mounts to replicate operating conditions.

  • Gas turbine rotors
  • Jet engine rotors and fan assemblies
  • Microturbines
  • Usually manual; semi-automatic correction such as linishing reduces reliance on skilled operators

Propellers and UAV blades

Propeller balancing

Balanced on horizontal machines, mounted on a mandrel through the hub, with guarding and a drive sized for the windage.

  • Fixed-pitch, variable-pitch and constant-speed aircraft propellers
  • UAV and drone propellers
  • Correction by weights in the hub, light sanding or grinding, rivets or bonded weights

FAQ

Aerospace Balancing FAQs

Why are aircraft wheels balanced on a non-rotating machine?

Vertical non-rotating machines allow easy loading and measure very quickly, which suits wheel and brake shops handling many part types.

How are propellers balanced?

On a horizontal machine, mounted on a mandrel through the hub. The machine is guarded and the drive sized for the windage, and larger machines can be installed in a protected area so ambient airflow does not interfere.

Can aircraft wheel balancing be automated?

Aircraft wheel balancers are typically loaded and unloaded manually, but parts of the process can be automated.

Do the machines produce a balance certificate?

Yes. Every machine logs and exports measurement data and prints a balance certificate for each part directly from the software.

Is installation and operator training included?

Yes. Installation and operator training are included as standard with our aerospace balancing machines. Calibration is validated against ISO 21940-21, with a full calibration certificate and traceable records, and after installation you have remote support and local service teams. Sales and support come from our head office and service center in Bristol, UK, our service and support office in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and our teams in Spain and Germany.

Do you service and calibrate machines from other manufacturers?

Yes. We support and service other makes as well as our own, so a wheel and brake shop or overhaul facility can have its existing balancing machines looked after alongside new ones. Calibration is carried out on site or remotely with live data capture, validated against ISO 21940-21, and comes with a full certificate and traceable records, or a corrective action plan if a machine cannot be certified.
