Large horizontal balancing machine with guard enclosure

OEM and tier 1

Built for OEM and Tier 1 Production Lines

Built for the line.

Automatic balancing machines are designed for high-volume production, or wherever you need to reduce operator involvement and ensure consistent unbalance correction. They are typically integrated into production cells with robotic or conveyor handling, full safety guarding and data connectivity for process monitoring, and can also be supplied as stand-alone systems with operator load and unload.

Drilling is the most common correction method. Machines can also be equipped for milling, punching, grinding, laser welding, turning, welding of weights or automatic riveting, depending on the part.

Driveline

Driveshaft, Axle and Shaft Machines

Shafts, axles and drive units.

Driveshaft balancing

Automatic driveshaft balancers for light vehicles in 2, 3 or 4 plane configurations. Heavy-duty machines balance single shafts or complete systems in three planes as standard, for truck, bus and off-highway vehicles.

  • Automatic workholding and welding
  • Laser runout measurement
  • Barcode part identification and automatic unloading
  • Manual and semi-automatic machines for the aftermarket
Driveshaft balancing machines

Axle balancing

Purpose-built machines for third members, RDU/PTU, FDU and beam axles, horizontal or vertical axis, working with the full axle case, half cases or back sections removed.

  • Automatic correction for high-volume lines, most commonly by drilling
  • Usually full robotic loading
Axle balancing machines

Shaft straightening

PLC-controlled straightening machines for driveshafts and propshafts, camshafts and crankshafts.

  • Manual loading, semi-automatic operation or fully automated production

Electric vehicles

EV Motor Rotor Balancing and E-Axle Testing

Rotors balanced. E-axles tested.

Electric motor balancing machines handle individual rotors and complete motor assemblies, including traction motors.

Electric motor balancing machines

EV motor rotors

Rotors are balanced on their own journals on horizontal belt-drive machines.

  • Induction motor rotors
  • Brushless DC rotors
  • Traction motor rotors

Correction and automation

In production, correction is typically by drilling, while axial flux rotors may need putty application or milling.

  • Manual systems through to fully automated, robot-fed machines
  • Measure-only stations for lower volumes or complex correction
  • Complete motors on custom table-type systems, with the motor driving itself

E-motor, inverter and e-axle test stands

E-propulsion test rigs for efficiency maps and torque/speed thermal cycling, with high-voltage battery simulation. Test stands.

  • Example configuration an automotive e-axle rig up to 25,000 rpm, 0 to 6,000 Nm, with an 800 V battery simulator and NVH package

Brakes

Brake Rotor, Disc and Drum Balancing

Milled in a single plane.

Vertical machines for brake rotors, discs, drums and hubs, single-plane, with correction most commonly by milling. Most are supplied fully automated with walking beam conveyors or robotic loaders; manual versions suit lower-volume and performance applications.

FAQ

Automotive & EV Balancing FAQs

Which machine do I need for a two-piece or three-piece driveshaft?

Two-piece driveshafts are balanced in three planes and three-piece shafts in four. Our automatic light-vehicle balancers come in 2, 3 or 4 plane configurations, and manual machines up to 5 planes.

Can the machine be integrated into our production cell?

Yes. For high-volume applications, machines are typically installed without standalone guarding and integrated directly into the production cell safety systems, with robotic or conveyor loading.

Do you balance complete motors or only rotors?

Both. For complete motors, custom table-type balancing systems are used, with the motor driving itself during unbalance measurement.

Do you supply measure-only stations?

Yes. Crankshaft, flywheel, clutch and pulley machines are all available as measure-only systems.

Do you also straighten shafts?

Yes. Alongside balancing, we supply PLC-controlled straightening machines for driveshafts and propshafts, camshafts and crankshafts. They are available for manual loading, semi-automatic operation or fully automated production. On the balancing side, our driveshaft machines can include laser runout measurement, barcode part identification and automatic unloading, alongside automatic workholding and welding.

What support do you give automotive plants in the UK and the USA?

Installation and operator training are included as standard, and machines are backed by up to a 3-year warranty on new machines, which is industry leading. You have remote support and local service teams, from our offices in Bristol, UK and Ann Arbor, Michigan, with teams in Spain and Germany. Balancing machines are built to CE, UL or CSA standards to suit your market, and calibration is validated against ISO 21940-21.
